WWF struggles against Peruvian poachers

A wide swath of the Amazon in Lima, Peru needs protection. These pristine territories are home for various unique animals, birds and even indigenous communities.

The Peruvian National Protected Areas Service promised to allocate a budget of USD 280.000 for creating and upkeep of guarding bands. The bands will control the whole large area that is even larger than El Salvador, which comprises the Purus Communal Reserve and the Alto Purus National Park.

For years poachers have damaged the beauties of the Amazon, especially they brought a lot of harm to forests, inhabited by endangered animals. Mahogany has been the main reason of illegal logging. WWF took care of the precious area, having made it protected officially since 2004.

Russian Baikal lake endangered

the lake of Baikal, Baikal Lake, Siberia, environment Russian police took a rigid step against an environmental group, which had disputed a plan of reopening a paper mill near Lake Baikal, also known as the “Pearl of Siberia”.

The police claimed that the raid was held in order to find out the purpose of using unlicensed software. Therefore, the environmental group was left without their computers. The main problem is the shut paper mill. It was closed in 2008 by the president Vladimir Putin due to pollution fears.

Scores of environmentalists did their best to keep the plant closed. Nevertheless, the plant management believes that it’s possible to operate the mill without causing any harm to the lake.

Recycle your computer

recycle, computer recycle, TV recycle, environment, ecology In Olympia, Washington DC, an E-Cycle even took place. This enormous act was about recycle of millions pounds (around 39) of electronic devices like TV sets, monitors and computers.

The E-Cycle operation, regulated by the State Department of Ecology, started off on the 1st of January 2009 and was considered the first biggest within the state collection of out-of-work televisions, monitors, laptops and many other gadgets. The event was supported by manufacturers of electronic devices.

The first year of the program was efficient as almost 4 million pounds of computers, 22.2 million pounds of TVs and 12.3 pounds of monitors were recycled.

However, this huge recycling is quite harmful for the environment, because all these e-gadgets contain hazardous chemical substances

Statistics of deaths due natural disasters over the past decade

I found these shocking facts on the Internet that prove that a human isn’t almighty yet. According to the overall statistics, about 60% of people were killed in nature disasters. Twenty percent of which died due to storms. The Centre for Research on Epidemiology stated that more than 790,000 people were killed by 3,852 disasters.

The biggest amount of deaths took place in Asia, almost 85%. The Asian tsunami in 2004 killed more than 230,000 people.

Earthquakes are dreadful. They bring the biggest number of victims. The earthquake in Haiti killed more than 100,000 and left around 200,000 of Haitians without accommodation. _________________________________

What’s going on? Why does Mother Nature makes millions of people suffer? Perhaps, she's taking her revenge for our cruel attitude toward her.

Kepler caught five new planets

five planets, Kepler, telescope, NasaStriking news! Five new planets were detected by NASA’a telescope called Kepler. The space telescope was designed to target Earth-like planets.

The planets are known to have a much bigger size than that of the Earth. The fifth planet, named 8b, is similar in size to Neptune. The other four ones exceed the size of Jupiter.

Scientists were surprised by the speed the planets spin around their stars, which is very high. The planets are extremely hot as well, for instance, two of them are as hot as lava.

Food allergy vs food intolerance

food allergy, food intolerance, allergyIf your stomach gets upset after drinking milk and eating shrimps make your skin itchy, it means you are either allergic or intolerant to this particular kind of food. Studies have shown that most of us believe that such symptoms determine food allergy. However a majority of Americans can’t tell you the difference between food allergy and food intolerance. Therefore, wrong treatment methods may be chosen.

In fact, the main difference is in seriousness of these disorders: allergies may cause even death while food intolerance brings some discomfort. An allergy is a very important issue that affects almost all sides of our life. Imagine yourself being on a strict diet all the time! Imagine a child not eating milk and eggs which means not eating cakes and other sweet things. How do you find a birthday party without a delicious cake?

Food allergy

A food allergy occurs when our body does not recognize a certain item and mistakes it as foreign or dangerous substance. Therefore the body starts to fight against the substance, producing antibodies. The antibodies make our immune system react. The reaction is rush, swollen tongues or lips, dizziness or itchiness.

Food intolerance

Food intolerance has no connection with out immune system. It’s just that our digestive system lacks some component that is needed to digest certain food. Food intolerance can cause diarrhea, bloating and gas.
